Apple introduced four new iPhones this week at the company’s “It’s Glowtime” event. Soon after, as it usually does following new iPhone announcements, Apple retired several older iPhones.
On Monday, Apple announced the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max — adding to the existing lineup that includes the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, and third-generation iPhone SE. To make room for the newest iPhones, Apple is no longer selling the iPhone 13, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
The discontinued iPhone models will still be available at third-party retailers for a while. In some cases, they may be sold at substantial discounts. Even though Apple no longer offers these phones for purchase, they will continue to receive iOS and security updates for a long time. For example, Apple’s upcoming iOS 18 update will support iPhones starting with the 2018 models, including the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR.
Before purchasing an older phone, it’s important to note that Apple Intelligence will only be supported on the iPhone 16 series and the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. It will not work on any other older iPhone models. The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max also include larger displays.
The iPhone 16 series will be available for sale starting this Friday, September 13, with the first orders being shipped one week later on September 20. These phones offer several new features, including all-new chips, a new Camera Control feature, new colors, and more. Camera improvements are also coming to all four models.
In addition to the new iPhones, Apple has announced the Apple Watch Series 10 and AirPods 4, as well as slight improvements to the Apple Ultra 2, AirPods Max, and AirPods Pro 2.

Apple’s 128GB iPhones remain an insult to our wallets

Well, there’s still one way: The iPhone 16 starts with 128GB of on-board storage. And let’s be perfectly clear: Unless you intend on buying that low-end option for someone who’s barely going to use it — not install many apps, or take many picture or video — it shouldn’t even enter the discussion.
The wait for Apple’s iOS 18 update is almost over
After months of anticipation, Apple’s big “It’s Glowtime” event arrived today, and it brought the eagerly awaited news of when to expect the iPhone or iPad to get the update to iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, respectively.
Announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, iOS 18 is the biggest update to the iPhone in years. At its big event today, Apple confirmed that iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 are both officially being released on September 16. They bring many customization options, like the ability to move apps freely on the home screen and change the lock screen shortcuts, as well as all-new themes, including being able to choose colors, styles, and designs as you wish. Widgets can now be resized dynamically using a handle that surfaces when you’re in edit mode, and instead of having to delete and read a widget in a different size, you can resize it on the fly.
The Apple Store is down. Here’s why you can’t use it
The online Apple Store is currently unavailable in preparation for today’s “It’s Glowtime” event. The store still displays products likely to be discontinued, such as the iPhone 15 Pro series and Apple Watch Series 9, but you can no longer purchase them. These products are expected to be replaced by new products, which will be available for preorder shortly.
Instead of a “Buy” button, you’ll see this message: “Be right back. We’re making updates to the Apple Store. Check back soon.”
