Apple will now charge you more to replace your iPhone or MacBook’s battery. The higher battery replacement prices are also applicable for iPads.

The company first revealed the battery replacement price increase in a support document on its website at the beginning of 2023.

Out-of-warranty iPhone and iPad battery replacement becomes expensive

Apple typically charges $69 for replacing the battery on most out-of-warranty iPhone models. Starting today (i.e., March 1, 2023), you must pay $20 more. So, Apple will now charge you $89 for replacing your iPhone’s battery. This price applies to all iPhones, from the iPhone X to iPhone 13.

For the iPhone 14 series, the company estimates $99 as the battery replacement cost for out-of-warranty repairs. If you have an iPhone SE, iPhone 8, or an even older iPhone, Apple will now charge you $69 — up from $49. You can get an estimate of your iPhone’s battery replacement cost from Apple’s iPhone Battery Service page.

The cost of iPad battery replacement has also increased by $20 — from $99 to $119. This price applies to the entire iPad Air, iPad mini lineup, and selected iPad Pro models. For the M2 iPad Pro, Apple’s battery replacement charges are $149 and $179 for the 11-inch and 12.9-inch models, respectively.

MacBook battery replacement costs are rising, too

Battery replacements for out-of-warranty MacBooks are getting expensive by $30 to $50. Apple commands $159 for battery replacement for the MacBook Air lineup. This is up by $30 from the company’s previous charge of $129. Replacing the battery of your MacBook Pro will cost you $249, an increase of $50.

All the prices mentioned above for iPhone, iPad, and MacBook only apply for out-of-warranty repairs. If your device is covered by AppleCare+, the price will be significantly lower.

If you find Apple’s battery replacement prices on the higher side, you can try your local repair stores. Alternatively, if you are the more adventurous type, you can replace the battery yourself by sourcing the parts and tools from iFixit. Given that battery replacement is easier on newer MacBooks, this should be doable if you are up for the challenge
