Apple’s iPhone 17 lineup is still months from launch, but early leaks are already generating excitement—especially around the Pro models. According to a new report, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are expected to receive significant camera upgrades. These enhancements could further boost Apple’s reputation for top-tier photography and video performance, reinforcing its lead in the premium smartphone market.

Apple is expected to make significant camera improvements in its upcoming iPhone 17 Pro lineup, particularly with the telephoto lens. The company, which previously upgraded the main and ultra-wide cameras to 48 megapixels in past models, is now rumored to increase the telephoto sensor’s resolution to 48 megapixels as well. If true, all three rear cameras would feature 48MP sensors, leading to sharper images and improved zoom capabilities. This could also enhance long-distance photo detail, though it’s unclear if Apple will update the Camera app’s 5x zoom interface.

Another anticipated feature is multi-camera video recording, a function long available through third-party apps but never officially supported by Apple’s native Camera app. The iPhone 17 Pro series might change that, allowing users to record video using multiple lenses—such as ultra-wide and telephoto—at the same time.
This addition would appeal especially to content creators seeking more flexibility. Meanwhile, the front-facing TrueDepth camera is also reportedly getting a resolution bump from 12MP to 24MP, possibly across the entire iPhone 17 range, enhancing selfies and video calls, especially in low-light conditions.

Beyond performance, Apple may redesign the rear camera layout. Instead of the current camera “bump,” the company could introduce a new horizontal camera bar or island stretching across the phone’s back. This shift would potentially optimize internal space and make room for larger sensors while offering a refreshed visual design. Such a redesign may also better distribute components like the flash and LiDAR scanner.
These rumored changes suggest that Apple is doubling down on its camera-first strategy for the iPhone 17 Pro models. While lighter models like the iPhone 17 Air may target users looking for portability, the Pro and Pro Max are shaping up to be powerhouses for photography and video. With a launch expected in September 2025, these upgrades—if confirmed—could make the iPhone 17 Pro one of Apple’s most camera-focused releases yet.
