iOS 26 brings a new opt-in Adaptive Power Mode on the iPhone, in addition to the existing Low Power Mode.
Adaptive Power More can automatically make small performance adjustments to extend the battery life of your iPhone, by doing things like slightly dimming the display brightness or slowing some activities.
The full description of Adaptive Power Mode, from the first iOS 26 beta, is as follows:
When your battery usage is higher than usual, iPhone can make small performance adjustments to extend your battery life, including slightly lowering the display brightness or allowing some activities to take a little longer. Low Power Mode may turn on at 20%.
Unfortunately for users of older iPhones, even though their devices are compatible with iOS 26, Adaptive Power Mode is only available on the iPhone 15 Pro models and newer. This is due to the new AI-powered feature requiring an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence.
The feature will be available only on the following iPhone models:
- iPhone 15 Pro
- iPhone 15 Pro Max
- iPhone 16e
- iPhone 16
- iPhone 16 Plus
- iPhone 16 Pro
- iPhone 16 Pro Max
- Upcoming iPhone 17 lineup
Adaptive Power Mode is turned off by default. The option can be turned on in the Settings app under “Battery” -> “Power Mode.”
The first beta of iOS 26 is currently being tested by developers. A public beta will be released in July. The update will likely be released to the public sometime in September.
