Despite nearing its first anniversary, the iPhone 15 was the world’s highest-selling smartphone in Q3 2024. The iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro occupied the second and third positions, respectively.

In total, four iPhones were among the best-selling smartphones in Q3 2024.

iPhone 15 lineup saw strong demand in Q3 2024

iPhones are among the world’s most popular smartphones, dominating the sales chart in almost all countries. Typically, iPhone sales slow down in Q3 as consumers postpone their purchases in anticipation of the launch of new iPhones. However, in recent years, iPhones have enjoyed strong demand even during the June-September quarter.

The latest report from Counterpoint Research reflects this, with iPhones taking the top three slots in the list of the world’s highest-selling smartphones in Q3 2024. The iPhone 15 was the most in-demand, capturing 3.6% of the market. The iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro, Apple’s most expensive handsets, followed next.

More importantly, the report claims that, for the first time ever, Pro iPhones accounted for half of iPhone sales in Q3 2024. This helped push Apple’s ASP (average selling price) higher. This is not surprising, especially since iPhone 15 Pro variants have dominated shipments since launch last year.

Samsung devices dominated the list, but Apple still came out on top

Despite the iPhone’s strong showing in Q3 2024, the results are not as good as in Q3 2023. Last year, iPhone 14 and iPhone 13 occupied the top four positions, which is not the case this year. Apple saw a slight decline in its market share, all thanks to its chief rival, Samsung.

Samsung’s Galaxy devices took five of the 10 slots, though barring the Galaxy S24, others were all budget models. On the bright side, this is the first time since 2018 that a flagship Galaxy phone enjoyed such strong demand in the third quarter of the year. Typically, their demand drops off after a few months of launch.

Xiaomi’s Redmi 13C, another low-end phone, was the only non-Apple and Samsung device to make it to the top 10 list.
