Rumors have been flying that a new generation of Macs is set to be announced in October, including a new 14-inch MacBook Pro with Apple’s M4 chip. A new leak shows what the packaging for that MacBook Pro might look like.

Posted on X by leaker ShrimpApplePro and first reported by 9to5Mac, the box appears to be for a 14-inch MacBook Pro with 16GB of unified memory and 512GB of storage. That seemingly confirms a rumor about next-generation MacBooks having 16GB on the base models, up from the current base of 8GB.

In addition, the box says the 14-inch MacBook Pro will come with three Thunderbolt 4 ports, up from two, along with a Liquid Retina XDR display with ProMotion technology. It also tips a 10 core CPU and 10 core GPU, up from an 8 core CPU and 10 core GPU on the base model.

As with all rumors, take this with a grain of salt. Commenters, for example, have pointed out that the box still refers to Apple ID even though Apple has rebranded that as an Apple Account. Current MacBooks can also have 16GB of unified memory, so this may be an upgraded model of the MacBook Pro rather than a base model.

We’ll have to wait a few more weeks to see if the rumors are true.

Apple is also rumored to be announcing a new 16-inch MacBook Pro, a redesigned Mac mini, and a new iMac, with all of them running some version of Apple’s M4 chips. The M4 was announced earlier this year and is currently only available in the iPad Pro.

Hello, my name is Joe and I am a tech blogger. My first real experience with tech came at the tender age of 6 when I started playing Final Fantasy IV (II on the SNES) on the family’s living room console. As a teenager, I cobbled together my first PC build using old parts from several ancient PCs, and really started getting into things in my 20s. I served in the US Army as a broadcast journalist. Afterward, I served as a news writer for XDA-Developers before I spent 11 years as an Editor, and eventually Senior Editor, of Android Authority. I specialize in gaming, mobile tech, and PC hardware, but I enjoy pretty much anything that has electricity running through it.
