Apple has landed a new drama series for Apple TV+ called “Drops of God,” inspired by bestselling manga from award-winning Tadashi Agi and Shu Okimoto.

“Drops of God” is set to premiere in 2023 on Apple TV+, excluding Japan. It’s presented in partnership with France Televisions and Hulu Japan, according to Apple’s announcement.

The series of eight episodes is a multilingual French-Japanese drama from Legendary Entertainment adapted from the New York Times bestselling Japanese manga series of the same name. “Drops of God” stars Fleur Geffrier (“Das Boat”) as Camille Leger and Tomohisa Yamashita (“Alice in Borderland”) as Issei Tomine.

In the series, Alexandre Leger, creator of the famous Leger Wine Guide and popular in the study of wines, has just passed at his home in Tokyo at age 60. His daughter, Camille (Geffrier), lives in Paris and hasn’t seen her father since her parents separated when she was nine.

When she flies to Tokyo and Leger’s will is read, she discovers that her father has left her a wine collection that experts say is the greatest in the world. But to claim the inheritance, Camille must compete with wine expert Issei Tomine (Yamashita), who her father took under his wing and is referred to in the will as his “spiritual son.”

Quoc Dang Tran (“Marianne,” “Parallel”) wrote the series, and it was executive produced by Klaus Zimmermann (“Borgia,” “Trapped”). Oded Ruskin (“No Man’s Land,” “Absentia”) directed the series.
