ProMotion & Always-on will be exclusive to iPhone 15 Pro models

A new supply chain rumor backs up expectations that Apple will continue to reserve display features like Always-On to the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Previous reports have claimed that all of the forthcoming iPhone 15 models will feature Apple’s Dynamic Island, currently only on the iPhone 14 Pro editions. Those same reports, though, also said Apple was unlikely to bring the Pro models’ 120Hz/LTPO screen to standard iPhones.

That would mean that the regular iPhone 15 could not feature ProMotion, which selectively speeds up parts of the screen in response to when a faster rate is needed, and also slows it down to save power. It also meant that Always On could not come to the regular iPhones.

Now these expectations appear to have been backed up by a new leak that claims to come via the supply chain. Leaker “yeux1122” — who in August 2021 claimed to have early iPhone 14 details — says Apple is preparing for mass production.

“Apple has already prepared to deliver the iPhone 15 series… panel to domestic companies, and it is said that it will soon confirm the details and prepare for mass production,” writes “yeux1122” in a blog. The text describes a “Diffle panel,” but this is possibly a translation error.

“What is confirmed here is that the specification supports LTPO 120 refresh rate only for the Pro series,” continues the leaker, “and the basic normal plus model does not have the requirements.”

The blog says, also in translation, that the source for this detail is the “domestic display industry.”

While leaker “yeux1122” hasn’t an especially notable track record, it’s still the case that the information backs up previous expectations.
