Siri has been around for a long time as an on-device voice assistant for Apple product users. Apple’s voice assistant is a hit-or-miss thing that never lived up to its hype, especially when compared to Google’s offering. That will likely change soon, but you might have to wait a while. Apple is reportedly working to give Siri a major overhaul that could roll out sometime in 2026.
Apple is working on a major overhaul for Siri which won’t roll out until the spring of 2026
This news comes via renowned Apple insider, Mark Gurman. In his latest PowerOn Newsletter, Gurman mentions that Apple aims to make Siri more conversational to compete with ChatGPT and Google Gemini. The major overhaul internally called “LLM Siri” is reportedly based on Apple’s LLMs which might roll out in the spring of 2026.
To catch you up, Apple promised a powerful Siri back in June when it announced Apple Intelligence. Although the first set of Apple Intelligence features included some changes to Siri, they aren’t groundbreaking. As you may know, Apple partnered up with OpenAI to bring ChatGPT’s capabilities to Siri; the tech giant reportedly wants to rely on its in-house solution for the long run.
Apple could preview revamped voice assistant at WWDC 2025
Gurman also notes that we could get a sneak peek of a revamped Siri sooner. It’s possible that Apple could preview the same at WWDC 2025 or other events next year. There’s no confirmation, though. To remind you, previewing a product feature doesn’t guarantee its immediate rollout. We have seen that happening with Apple Intelligence as well.
No doubt, it’s good to know that Apple is finally making moves to make Siri more useful than ever. However, the long wait, getting even longer, might be frustrating for users. We all know that Apple has a lot to do when it comes to catching up with its rivals in the ongoing AI race. So, it’ll be interesting to see how the Cupertino giant proceeds down the line.
