An SUV drove through the glass of an Apple Store in Massachusetts this morning in what one Fire Marshall says may have been an “intentional†act. Details aren’t fully clear on injuries, but sadly multiple people have been taken to the emergency room with one person dying because of the incident.
Update Nov 22: CNN reports that the accused driver has now been named.
The man accused of driving an SUV that killed one person and injured 20 others in Hingham, Massachusetts, has been identified by the Plymouth County district attorney’s office as Bradley Rein, 53.
Rein has been charged with “reckless homicide by motor vehicle,†the district attorney’s office said in a tweet. “Rein was arrested last night, and is scheduled to be arraigned in Hingham District Court.â€
Update 1:19 pm PT: Apple has closed the Derby Street store for the week and shared a statement regarding the awful incident:
“Due to the recent tragic events at Apple Derby Street, the store is closed until further notice. Our hearts go out to everyone affected.â€
Update 11:12 am PT: Local hospital officials have shared that 16 people have been injured and are receiving care with one casualty resulting from the crash. At this point, there are multiple people with life-threatening traumas that are undergoing or will soon undergo surgery.
Reported by ABC WCVB 5, the vehicle drove through the glass facade of the Apple Store Derby Street in Hingham, MA this morning at 10:50 am.
So far, it appears one person has died and up to 14 people were injured and taken to the local South Shore Hospital.
“One person who was inside the store at the time of the crash said the SUV appeared to be moving at a high rate of speed when it crashed into the store.â€
“It was like a big explosion,†another witness, who was outside, said. “It was so loud.â€
A tow truck is on-site to presumably pull the SUV out of the Apple Store when possible.
Notably, WCVB 5 reported that a Fire Marshall on scene said “the video suggests this was intentional.â€
The driver who crashed into the Apple Store is said to be bloody but alert and talking.
