Huawei is officially entering the foldable laptop arena. The company has confirmed that its first foldable-screen notebook—the Huawei MateBook Fold Ultimate Design—will debut on May 19. It’ll take the stage alongside the nova 14 series smartphones and a new MateBook Pro, both of which are expected to run HarmonyOS PC.

The MateBook Fold is likely to ship with Huawei’s new HarmonyOS PC platform too, marking a broader push away from Windows and into its own ecosystem. It puts Huawei in direct competition with existing foldable laptops like the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold and Asus Zenbook 17 Fold—and maybe soon, Apple.

Apple has long been rumored to be working on a foldable MacBook of its own, though it’s not expected until at least 2026 or 2027. If that timeline holds, Huawei could end up getting a significant head start in this new category.

Specs are still under wraps for now, but we can expect a large foldable display, likely with touchscreen support and possibly a detachable or foldable keyboard. Huawei’s hardware tends to lean premium, so it’s safe to assume this will be positioned as a flagship device.

The full reveal is just days away, and if HarmonyOS plays a major role, this could be more than just a hardware experiment—it could be Huawei’s vision for a Windows-free future.
