When Microsoft launched Windows 11 in 2021, the operating system came with a feature called the Widgets Panel. It is a place that contains all widgets, and you can access it by clicking on the Widgets button on the Taskbar. Over the years, the company has made some improvements to the Widgets Panel, such as introducing new widgets, opening up the space to third-party developers, and offering a new widget picker experience. Now, the tech giant seems to be working on making the widgets experience even better.

According to Zac Bowden from Windows Central, Microsoft is planning to bring two new widget-related features to Windows 11. First up, the company is working on allowing users to pin widgets directly on the desktop. It will enable users to access widgets more easily, and with this move, the company reportedly aims to increase user engagement with widgets. This feature will work similarly to Windows Desktop Gadgets that we saw with Windows 7, allowing users to place widgets anywhere on the desktop.

App Folders In Microsoft Windows 11

Introducing the ability to pin widgets on the desktop will allow Microsoft to add another quirky feature to the OS. And that’s enabling users to create app folders on the desktop. The company teased this feature in a demo video recently and going by the looks of it, app folders on Windows 11 might not only work but also appear similar to app folders on Android and iOS. The app folder will appear as an icon, showing the first four apps it contains. This feature will allow users to access their favorite apps more easily.

Currently, there’s no concrete information about when Microsoft is planning to introduce these features to Windows 11. However, the company is holding a dedicated session about Windows Widgets at the Build 2023 event, and it’s highly likely that Microsoft will take the stage to announce the new widget features. Once announced, you can expect the changes to hit your Windows 11-powered Samsung Galaxy Book laptops and PCs in the next few months.
