Usually, Google releases a new version of Android in the third or the fourth quarter of a year. However, the company is planning to release the next version of the OS, Android 16, earlier than usual. In June, to be more specific, and now one of the brand’s spokesperson says that Google is on track to deliver on that promise.
At MWC 2025, when folks at Android Police asked Google’s President of the Android Ecosystem, Sameer Samat, about Android 16’s release date, he said “So far, so good. I’ve never had a release where at this point the bug count was where I wanted it to be, but the team is working really hard, and we’re excited about getting it there.”
Samsung’s Android 16-based One UI 8.0 could also arrive sooner
It suggests that Google is on track to release Android 16 in June. If that turns out to be true, Samsung could roll out Android 16-based One UI 8.0 sooner than previous versions of One UI. In fact, a leak claims that the South Korean tech giant will skip offering One UI 7.1 and One UI 7.1.1 to offer One UI 8.0 on time.
Unfortunately, Samsung has still not released Android 15-based One UI 7.0 to eligible devices. Usually, the company releases a new version of Android to Galaxy smartphones and tablets by the end of a year. This time it is late by at least a few months. Samsung says that making major changes is consuming more time.
