This year, something odd happened. Google, the mastermind behind the Google Pixel smartphones and Android itself, somehow failed to launch Android 15 alongside the Pixel 9 series. That’s something that hasn’t happened in recent years and even more strange is how nearly two months after the announcement, Android 15 still isn’t on Pixels.
Unfortunately, it seems like Google’s bad influence is rubbing off on Samsung. We heard a few whispers about the One UI 7 beta (based on Android 15) but then additional whispers of delays. Now, we finally have confirmation that the stable release of One UI 7 is not coming any time soon, which is unusually tardy for Samsung.
Samsung Mentioned One UI 7 At SDC24, Confirming That The Beta Won’t Come Until The End Of 2024
I’m a Samsung user and I love getting access to new software updates, especially the big ones that bring a whole world of change to your smartphone. So, I was very excited to hear the first rumors regarding One UI 7 and its beta. However, reliable sources started to give an indication that the new version of the operating system was not going to come around quickly. Samsung has just made that notion official.
If you were waiting for One UI 7 like me, the first taste of it—which is the beta, will only be finding its way to developers “before the end of this year”, which means you likely shouldn’t expect to see it before December.
The Stable Release For One UI 7 Is Only Coming Once The Galaxy S25 Is Ready For Launch
I’m sure you can put the pieces together at this point. If One UI 7’s beta is coming before the end of the year, there’s nearly no chance that the stable release of the operating system will make its way to us in this calendar year. Samsung has basically confirmed that’s indeed the case.
In 2025, we’ll finally see One UI 7, and it looks like that will be alongside the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S25 series, which should be in January or potentially early February.
However, it is a bit of a head-scratching situation, as Samsung typically isn’t this late with its updates. If things went the way they went last year, the S25 series should have launched with One UI 7.1, not regular One UI 7. Whether this is related to Google’s late release can only be guessed at, especially since Vivo has been able to roll out an Android 15 update already.
Samsung Gave Us Only A Few Hints On What One UI 7 Will Bring To The Table
We’re craving official details on One UI 7 but Samsung said we should crave longer, so crave we shall. They’ve mentioned that One UI 7 will incorporate a new UX with a design that is “simple, impactful, and emotive”, but that’s all corporate speak.
We’re looking forward to more info on One UI 7, whether we’re going to be forced to get them through leaks or official Samsung releases.
