Galaxy AI is a suite of artificial intelligence-powered features that utilize LLMs and other tech that Samsung has made and has also sourced from other players in the industry, such as the Gemini models from Google.
OpenAI, the company behind the famous ChatGPT, is now looking to get in on that Galaxy AI action. It’s reportedly engaged in discussions with Samsung to power AI features on Galaxy devices using its artificial intelligence tech.
OpenAI tech is already being used in Apple Intelligence
As the world’s top supplier of mobile devices, Samsung ships hundreds of millions of devices, many of which are now enabled with Galaxy AI. The company is on track to bring Galaxy AI to more than 200 million devices this year alone. At this rate, it’s only going to be a couple of years before Galaxy AI-enable devices hit the one billion mark.
That presents a significant opportunity for OpenAI, and one that it’s said to be discussing with Samsung Electronics. These discussions are believed to be similar in nature to the ones OpenAI has had with Apple, that led to some of its tech being used to power the Apple Intelligence features on the latest iPhones.
If a deal is struck between Samsung and OpenAI, it would require the Korean conglomerate to perform a balancing act due to its longstanding partnership with Google. Samsung is also expected to integrate AI features powered by Gemini in its upcoming AR smart glasses.
OpenAI has been courting Samsung as of late. Its CEO Sam Altman visited Samsung’s semiconductor plant earlier this year to discuss a possible alliance on AI chips. An expanded business relationship could see the two companies drawing closer and open the doors to Samsung’s vast mobile device empire for OpenAI.
