Samsung is deleting inactive accounts, here’s how to save yours

Samsung says it will start deleting inactive accounts in July if they haven’t been signed into for two years. Once an account is deleted, it’s gone.

Samsung accounts are key to gaining access to proprietary apps on Galaxy devices. The Galaxy Store and all of Samsung’s apps, such as Health and Galaxy Wearables, require a Samsung account to log in. Of course, this can be tied to a Google Account, but often, it’s a separate login.

According to Samsung, inactive accounts that haven’t had any activity for at least 24 months are subject to deletion (via SamMobile). This goes for secondary accounts that are used, as well. The change is set to happen on July 31, and any account falling within those parameters will be deleted with no chance of recovery. If an account has been logged into even once within the last 24 months, there should be no risk of removal.

This also applies to users who had a Samsung device in the past and may not have logged in for some time. It would be a good idea to check and make sure that the account doesn’t get the axe, especially if you ever think you’ll use Galaxy devices and your account again.

How to save your Samsung account from deletion

Samsung notes that accounts will be spared if they see any sort of login activity before July 31.

This means that users can log into their previously inactive Samsung account before the end of next month. Doing so will update the account on Samsung’s side, marking it as active. As long as this is done before July 31, the account should remain untouched.

Samsung will be sending an email out to users notifying them of the upcoming change, though that may prove ineffective if the email associated with the account is also inactive.
