Late last year, Samsung revealed its first XR headset prototype, Project Moohan. The headset was also showcased at this year’s Galaxy Unpacked and MWC events. While it is primarily made to be operated using finger and hand gestures, it will also work with motion controllers.

Samsung is making first-party motion controllers for XR headset

The South Korean firm revealed that its XR headset will work with controllers. And it appears that Samsung is making first-party motion controllers for its first XR headset. We have found references to those controllers, and they use the model number ET-OI610. They might not be bundled with the headset.

They might have wireless connectivity and motion sensors, similar to most other AR/VR headset controllers. While you may be able to do most things using finger and hand gestures, motion controllers can offer additional accuracy. They could be more suited for things like gaming.

Watch how Samsung’s XR headset looks in our short video below.

What do we know about Project Moohan XR headset?

Samsung hasn’t given Project Moohan a final name. The company might reveal it during a launch event later this year or during the Galaxy Unpacked event in mid-2025 when the Galaxy Z Flip 7, Galaxy Z Fold 7, and Samsung’s first dual-folding phone-tablet hybrid are expected to be announced.

The headset uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR series chipset and runs Android XR. It will feature the most popular Google apps, including Chrome, Google Maps, and YouTube. It can also run all other Android apps, but optimized apps will have full-screen immersive experiences and additional features.

It has at least half a dozen cameras and additional sensors, full RGB passthrough, OLEDoS displays with a high refresh rate, and automatically adjusting pancake lenses. It features Bluetooth 5.4 and Wi-Fi 6 and is powered by an external battery pack connected via a special USB Type-C cable.
