While Sony has been focusing on bigger smartphone camera sensors, going as high as 1-inch, Samsung is focusing on higher resolution sensors. While Sony has launched only 50MP camera sensors, the South Korean firm has already launched 200MP sensors, but it could soon launch not one but two 1-inch ISOCELL camera sensors.

ISOCELL HW1 and HW2 could be Samsung’s first 1-inch camera sensors, featuring 432MP resolution

According to a claim from tipster Revegnus, Samsung is working on two new ISOCELL camera sensors: ISOCELL HW1 and ISOCELL HW2. If you can remember, these are the company’s first ISOCELL HW series sensors. The ISOCELL HW1 is said to be a 1/1.05-inch (nearly 1-inch) sensor with 0.56µm pixels and a whopping 432MP resolution. The ISOCELL HW2 is a slightly different 1/1.07-inch (nearly 1-inch) sensor with a 0.5µm pixel size and a resolution of 432 megapixels.

If this information is accurate, Samsung appears to be working on 1-inch sensors but also featuring extremely high resolution, double that of its current-generation flagship camera sensors. How would that affect image and video quality remains to be seen. Moreover, it isn’t certain if these 1-inch camera sensors would be used by Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S series smartphones.

Galaxy Z Fold 6 could use a 50MP camera seen on the Galaxy Z Fold 5

The tipster also made some pretty wild claims. According to them, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will continue to use the same camera (50MP ISOCELL GN3 1/1.56-inch) seen on the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Galaxy Z Fold 5. With the Galaxy Z Fold 7, though, the South Korean firm will reportedly jump to a 200MP camera sensor (ISOCELL HP5 with 1/1.3-inch) with 0.5µm pixels.
