Samsung didn’t make OLED TVs for nearly a decade, enabling rivals like LG to establish their dominance in the market. It only relaunched OLED TVs in 2022 with the Samsung S95B, and since then, its OLED TVs have consistently ranked high in terms of picture quality.
The company is chasing down its cross-town rival LG in the OLED market and has made incredible progress over the past three years. Its market share has increased 8x since returning to the OLED TV market in 2022.
Samsung has LG looking in its rearview mirror
The latest data from Omdia shows that LG has remained as the world’s leading OLED TV brand for 12 consecutive years with a market share of 52.4% based on last year’s shipment volume. Samsung has seen impressive growth since its return to the OLED TV market.
The company has increased its market share from 3.1% in 2022 to 22.5% last year, an impressive 8x increase in such a short period of time. This goes to show that Samsung’s OLED TVs have been very well received in the market, and it may not be long before it’s breathing down LG’s neck in the standings.
The company should see considerable interest from customers for the Samsung S95F, its flagship OLED TV for 2025. It has a newer-generation QD-OLED panel, an enhanced Glare Free coating, and a higher 165Hz refresh rate. Samsung has also expanded its suite of AI features and equipped it with the faster NQ4 AI Gen 3 processor for elevated performance.
Omdia predicts growth for OLED TVs in 2025, expanding 6.55 million units shipped, a 7.8% increase over 2024. This would put the market at an all-time high after the boom last seen in 2021 due to pent-up demand after the pandemic.
