AI, specifically Generative AI, is the new big thing tech companies are chasing. It seemingly defines this generation of mobile devices, computers, and services, and its increase in popularity will create ripple effects across some industries.

Memory is among those segments driven in large part by AI, and Samsung Electronics may have much to win from the market shift AI may be causing. According to Korean media reports (via Pulse), Samsung will have to increase prices for server-grade DRAM and NAND flash memory chips in the third quarter of the year due to high demand.

Samsung may be planning a 15-20% price hike

Because more tech giants are now pursuing artificial intelligence, the memory market is experiencing a surge in demand.

Samsung will adjust to this market shift accordingly and may increase the prices of its enterprise-grade DRAM and NAND flash memory solutions by 15-20% in Q3.

Reports say Samsung has already informed its biggest customers of this upcoming price hike. Samsung’s enterprise DRAM and NAND buyers include Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Dell Technologies.

Memory prices have already increased throughout the year. Industry watcher DRAMeXchange, cited by Pulse, revealed that global sales for enterprise NAND flash in Q1 2024 increased 62.9% compared to the previous quarter. This led to the price of 64GB DRAM4 modules to increase slightly from $140 to $144.
