Samsung reportedly plans cheaper Galaxy Z Flip, more expensive Galaxy Z Fold in 2025

Samsung is reportedly planning to launch even more foldables in 2025, with a more affordable Galaxy Z Flip, but also a more expensive Galaxy Z Fold.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 launched in mid-2024 to middling reception. Samsung’s minimal upgrades combined with price increases left the devices largely behind the competition, and brought a dip in sales as well. It also led to Samsung scrambling to release a higher-end “Special Edition” Fold in Korea and China which is thinner, has a bigger internal display, and also comes with a higher price tag.

One might expect changes going forward based on the results in 2024, and Samsung is apparently set to make changes, just not the ones many would have expected.

Ross Young, an analyst for DSCC, says that Samsung is planning two new additions to its Galaxy Z lineup in 2025. This includes a more affordable Galaxy Z Flip, an “FE” release, as well as another “Special Edition” of the Galaxy Z Fold 7. In particular, Samsung apparently won’t be bringing the changes found in the “Special Edition” Fold it just released to next year’s Galaxy Z Fold 7, instead splitting that out into another additional, likely more expensive release.

Samsung has repeatedly said that it will not by making a more affordable Galaxy Z Fold device.

What do you think of Samsung’s potential foldable strategy for 2025?
