In terms of health gadgets, smartwatches and fitness trackers are still the most popular. While companies like Oura have tried their hand at making smart rings a thing, suffice to say that it hasn’t quite taken off in the way the company might have hoped.

That being said, Samsung could be looking to hop into the ring (pun intended). Last year, there were reports that Samsung is developing a smart ring of their own, tentatively known as the Galaxy Ring. Now according to reports out of South Korea, additional details of the device have been revealed.

According to the reports, the Galaxy Ring could come with a PPG (Photoplethysmography) sensor and ECG (Electrocardiogram). The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 already features an ECG, but the inclusion of the PPG could make the Galaxy Ring more suited to those who are concerned about their health and want more detailed tracking.

The report also claims that the ring will be more accurate than the watch, which in a way makes sense as the sensors are said to be placed around the inner circumference of the ring, which means that it can capture data from all sides. If that is the case, it might make it more appealing than the Galaxy Watch.

Of course, pricing needs to be right in order for it to replace the Galaxy Watch, but at the same time we feel that it might be kind of niche. After all, a watch is useful in multiple ways, like telling the time, setting alarms, viewing notifications, and more, so while the ring does have potential to be more accurate, it might not be up everyone’s alley.
