Samsung is apparently thinking about upgrading the Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus selfie camera.
The company might offer a 12MP camera next year instead of the 10MP sensor.
This would be the first resolution upgrade since 2019.

Samsung finally upgraded the rear camera system on its Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus earlier this year, but the company hasn’t upgraded the selfie camera for a few generations. Fortunately, that might change next year.

GalaxyClub reports that the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus could receive a 12MP selfie camera next year. This will be a resolution upgrade over the 10MP front-facing shooter that’s been in use since 2019’s Galaxy S10 series. Prior to the Galaxy S10 range, Samsung made use of an 8MP shooter.

There’s more to great selfie camera quality than a higher resolution sensor, but this could enable more detailed shots in ideal conditions and leave some room for cropping. This sensor could also deliver better low-light selfies if it’s larger than the 10MP camera used in earlier flagships. Finally, a 12MP sensor could theoretically deliver improved electronic stabilization for videos.

There’s no word on whether Samsung will upgrade the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s selfie camera as well. The company’s Ultra phones have used a 40MP sensor for selfies since 2020’s Galaxy S20 Ultra.

We’re not sure about other upgrades for the Galaxy S23 series, although it stands to reason that the phones will receive the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC and Exynos 2300 chipset.
