The Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 is now official – but it might have you wondering why there are no Classic or Pro editions this year.
Announced at its big Unpacked event with a number of other new devices, Samsung is offering the Galaxy Watch 7 in two sizes – 40- and 44mm – each with basic Bluetooth connectivity or with LTE cellular in addition. Apart from two colours of each, those are your only choices.
But what about those out there who want a different model from the regular smartwatch?
Well, on the Pro front, the answer is the new Galaxy Watch Ultra. Since the Pro edition was “designed for adventurers” in Samsung’s own words, it’s clear that the Ultra is now the model that serves this purpose.

The Galaxy Watch Ultra is aimed at “Fanatics in extreme conditions” with its IP68/10ATM waterproof rating, only the Ultra is more expensive at £599/$649 compared to £479/$449 of the Watch 5 Pro at the time of writing.
When it comes to the Classic, which stands out due to its rotating bezel, Lee Dinham, Mobile Experience Product Specialist at Samsung, told Tech Advisor at our Unpacked briefing that the edition is on a two-year cycle.
This explains why there isn’t one for the Watch 7 series and implies we’ll see it back next year as the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic.
Dinham also confirmed that the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic will remain on sale to fulfill that need while the regular Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro will be discontinued.

Samsung’s official statement on the subject states “At Samsung, we continually monitor consumer needs and market trends to help determine product launches. This year we announced the Galaxy Watch Ultra to our current lineup. Designed for performance enthusiasts, the Galaxy Watch Ultra represents a premium smartwatch equipped with ultimate capabilities and intelligence.”
