Honor Magic V5 Could Prove Foldables Can Have Huge Batteries Too – Talk Android

I’m starting to warm up to the idea of foldables. Sure, it’s been over six years since the first major foldable phone was released, but for me, they’ve only just reached a point where I’m very impressed with most of what is available in the market. The devices might still be incredibly expensive, but their spec sheets are starting to justify the price better.

Honor is one of the best companies in the foldable segment, releasing devices that claim the “flagship” title and do well in combating the common issues of foldable phones, like thickness and creases. The Honor Magic V5 is next up, and it is expected to be killer, especially if, despite its probably thinness, it manages to fit a rumored massive battery.

The Honor Magic V5 Could Bring a 6,000mAh Battery to the Foldable Scene

Even though foldable phones have a lot more surface area than the average smartphone, they have to deal with a lot of space constraints internally. There’s a massive hinge, one large foldable screen, a regular-phone-sized cover screen, and a camera module. Plus, each half of the phone can’t afford to be as thick as a regular smartphone, or you’d end up with something annoyingly thick, which presents another space constraint.

What makes things tougher is foldables strive to be as thin as regular phones when folded, so we’re starting to see phones that are sub-4mm when unfolded. Yet, a lot of manufacturers aren’t daunted; instead, they see it as a challenge, and Honor is one. The Honor Magic V3 (there won’t be a V4, likely due to tetraphobia) has a 5,150mAh battery despite being 4.4mm unfolded. The Honor Magic V5 could likely make that look pitiful.

A leak from MIIT and 3C certification databases (via ZionsAnvin on X) shows that the device will almost certainly come with a 6,000mAh cell, at least in China. Considering Honor will want to make the device a little thinner than its last, that’d be pretty astounding. There’s no foldable with a comparable battery—in fact, very few flagship phones can compare. Take a look.

The Foldable Will Stick to 66W Fast Wired Charging

One aspect where nothing is going to change is charging. The same certifications that have revealed the phone’s likely battery capacity have also shown us what charging speed it is going to bring. It will still have 66W wired charging, which might be disappointing to those who wanted an upgrade, but there is hardly anything to complain about—Samsung’s upcoming foldable will still make do with 25W.

There are very few foldables with faster charging speeds:

• Vivo X Fold 3: 80W
• Vivo X Fold 3 Pro: 100W
• Tecno Phantom V Fold 2: 70W
• Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 (marginally): 67W

And when you consider that none of the above devices can claim a battery past the 6,000mAh threshold, it’s not that bad, is it?
