OnePlus made its name with smartphones that were easy on your pocket but very hard on competitors. While its main numbered lineup of smartphones has gotten progressively more expensive over the years, the company introduced the Nord family to provide those value-focused options that people fell in love with in the first place.

The OnePlus Nord 5 is the next major Nord device in the queue, and the device will launch next month, among a bunch of other releases. However, OnePlus says that you should expect a lot from it, especially in the camera aspect of the spec sheet.

OnePlus Says That the Nord 5 Will Have Significantly Upgraded Cameras

It’s not hard to get a smartphone that has a fast processor, a massive battery, or a blindingly bright screen. In fact, you don’t even need to spend that much money to get one or multiple of those, with the way the current smartphone market is set up, and that’s a good thing.

However, the one aspect that lower-priced smartphones always seem to show their true cost is in the camera department. There’s a ridiculous amount of expertise needed for a phone to claim a solid photography setup, and it’s a lot more than just splurging on good camera hardware. OnePlus knows that the cameras on last year’s Nord 4 can get better, and that seems to be why the company claims that the Nord 5 will be majorly improved.

To quote OnePlus, the Nord 5 is going to have “flagship-grade camera sensors” on both the front and back, despite only being a midrange smartphone. On the back, there’ll be a 50MP Sony LYT-700 sensor, which truly is flagship-grade considering OnePlus put that sensor in the OnePlus 13. The front camera will use a 50MP Samsung JN5, which you’ll find in the telephoto setup of phones like the Poco F7 Ultra and OnePlus 13R.

The Software Behind the Camera Will Improve Too

It’s not all about hardware, like I mentioned earlier. OnePlus is ready to bring some improvements to the software behind your photography.

  • The OnePlus Nord 5 will use the same HDR algorithm as the flagship OnePlus 13
  • The Nord 5 will get LivePhoto functionality with Ultra HDR, letting you record motion shots without losing any quality
  • The device gains support for 4K/60 recording, both on the front and rear cameras

The OnePlus Nord 5 Will Launch on July 8th, Alongside a Bunch of Other OnePlus Devices

On July 8th, OnePlus will make the Nord 5 official, but that’s not the only device that will be making it to the scene that day. All signs point to the OnePlus Nord CE5 making the trip as well, and OnePlus has just confirmed that we’ll see the OnePlus Buds 4 as well, with new Adaptive ANC.

That makes for three devices. I’m expecting to see a diet version of the OnePlus Watch 3 and perhaps a lower-cost set of earbuds to fill out the pack. Thankfully, in less than two weeks, we’ll know for sure.

Through Tecno, Gionee, Vivo, Google, and now Samsung, Ayomide has always been an Android enthusiast. His current partner in crime is a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. You can find him playing Candy Crush or Call of Duty: Mobile, watching movies, and he is a big fan of trivia and quizzes.
