You can tell when a natural disaster is coming when the animals start acting funny, and you can tell when a phone’s release is impending when the leaks start getting more frequent. The Motorola Razr 50 series has leaked to a large extent, signaling that its launch is relatively close.
Now, we know exactly when those phones are coming, and that’s going to be June 25th, contrary to very recent reports that the devices were going to have an early July launch. Either way, serve it up because it looks like Motorola has certainly cooked up something delicious.
Motorola Confirms The Release Date Of The Razr 50 Series Through A Teaser Video
Just yesterday, we reported that it was rumored that the Motorola Razr 50 series was going to have its launch date pushed back into early July, likely to compete more tightly with Samsung’s upcoming Z Flip 6 smartphone. However, that’s been debunked now as Motorola has put out its official tweet announcing the launch of the Razr 50 phone on June 25th.
Personally, I’m really looking forward to these smartphones, as the leaks have indicated notable upgrades to both the regular 50 and 50 Ultra models. Let’s talk a bit about what you can expect in the next sections.
The Motorola Razr 50 Will Bring A Bigger Cover Display And A Major Chip Change
The Motorola Razr 40 had a dated design and I blame the tiny 1.5-inch cover screen that it had. The rest of the spec sheet was alright, to be honest, especially considering that the Razr 40 is a mid-range device and not trying to be a flagship device.
Thankfully, the Razr 50 is going to be very different, with an overhauled design thanks to a much larger cover display. It’s expected to go up to 3.63 inches and it’ll look a lot closer to last year’s Razr 40 Ultra than its direct predecessor. The inner screen stays the same size and resolution, 6.9-inch FHD pOLED, but the refresh rate drops to 120Hz from its previous 144Hz height. The main camera also goes down in resolution from 64MP to 50MP, though that doesn’t necessarily indicate a worse module.
Quite interesting is that Motorola opted to leave Qualcomm behind for the Razr 50, moving to the recently announced MediaTek Dimensity 7300X chip. We’ll see whether this is a better choice for performance, but this SoC was made for dual-display devices, so hopefully, it will be. The rest of the spec sheet stays the same for the most part though.
The Motorola Razr 50 Ultra Might Have The Joint Largest Cover Display On A Clamshell Foldable
The Razr 40 Ultra certainly looked a lot better than the Razr 40 did, though there were some odd spec choices, such as it having a smaller battery than its non-Ultra compatriot and a basic 12MP + 13MP camera configuration. That aside, it had a large 3.6-inch cover display, a great inner screen, Qualcomm’s powerful Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, and up to 12GB/512GB.
The Razr 50 Ultra is bringing some substantial changes to the spec sheet. For instance, the cover display is growing even further, with rumors saying it’ll be a 4-inch panel, which will make it the joint largest cover display on a foldable of its class, sharing the spot with the Honor Magic V Flip. The dual camera setup has both the primary and ultrawide upgraded to 50MP units.
The battery will also grow slightly, to 4,000 mAh, which is still smaller than the Razr 50 will have. However, it does get the perk of faster charging, which is going to be 45W when wired. The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip is expected to be at the helm of affairs. The rumored price for the foldable is $999, but we don’t need to wait long for confirmation.
Through Tecno, Gionee, Vivo, Google, and now Samsung, Ayomide has always been an Android enthusiast. His current partner in crime is a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. You can find him playing Candy Crush or Call of Duty: Mobile, watching movies, and he is a big fan of trivia and quizzes.
