When I first got to know about Realme, I saw it as a brand that offered excellent specifications at nearly unbeatable price points. The flagship killer strategy has always been one bound to make waves, as everyone loves power, but not everyone is willing to spend big bucks for it.

Over the years, the company has continued to catch its stride with grace, and now, at this point, I think Realme can compete with the best of them, with no compromises. The Realme GT 7 Pro is official, and it is quite a flagship. Let’s talk about it.

The Realme GT 7 Pro Goes Big On Everything

The Realme GT 7 Pro is the newest flagship device from the Chinese manufacturer, and while it isn’t the lucky device to bring Realme’s 320W fast charging to consumers, it goes huge on everything else.

The Design

The GT 7 Pro isn’t incredibly different from phones that we’ve seen before, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t like the design. The back panel is flat and curves sharply to join the frame. The camera module is a rounded rectangle with an asymmetric metallic bezel surrounding it—that’s likely my favorite part of the phone.

The device is available in an iconic Mars Orange colorway with a wavy pattern baked in. As pretty as that is, the Galaxy Grey color is also very good-looking. There’s a White model, but that’ll remain exclusive to China. Oh, and the device joins the ranks of devices with IP69 water resistance.

The Screen

The Realme GT 7 Pro has a display that arguably competes with some of the best that are available in smartphones right now. It’s a 6.78-inch “Eco2 OLED Plus” screen, made by Samsung. It’s an LTPO unit with a 120Hz maximum refresh rate and certification for HDR10+ and Dolby Vision content.

The star of the spec sheet has to be its 6,000-nit peak brightness, which is the brightest of any smartphone I can think of right now. Plus, it is said to have the lowest power consumption of any display in the industry, which is huge, especially when we get to the part about the battery.

The Hardware

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite is being swarmed right now, and Realme is one of those feeding off it. The new chip will bring plenty of power to the GT 7 Pro, legitimizing it as a flagship smartphone.

The device starts in a 12/256GB variant, which seems to be the standard base option these days. It also goes all the way up to 16GB/1TB for those who crave a whole lot of storage. Needless to say, it is UFS 4.0 storage—anything less would have ruined the entire package.

The device comes with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, an IR blaster, and an ultrasonic fingerprint reader underneath the display.

The Battery And Charging

The battery is one of my favorite parts about the Realme GT 7 Pro. In a time when a lot of Chinese manufacturers are managing to fit in larger batteries, it is not a surprise that this device gets a big one—I just wasn’t expecting this big. It’s a 6,500mAh cell. That’s bonkers. For reference, the Redmagic 9 Pro and Redmagic 9S Pro might be the only other flagships with batteries that are that large.

With a battery that big and a screen that consumes less power than any other, this device should hopefully do really good numbers.

Pairing that with 120W fast wired charging, there’s a pretty solid thing going on, especially since the charger comes in the box. There is no wireless charging though, which is a major weakness and might constitute a dealbreaker for some people.

The Cameras

To stay affordable, the cameras seem to be one of the spots Realme cut costs. Sure, there’s a 50MP primary camera with a 50MP 3x telephoto, but the ultrawide is an 8MP unit and the same as in the GT 5 Pro. You can record at up to 8K/24 from the main camera.

The selfie camera is just a 16MP unit, which limits you to only FHD/60 recording. That’s good enough, but 4K would have been better.

Thanks to that IP69 rating, Realme had decided to develop a special underwater photography camera mode, which allows this device to double like a GoPro, if you live that kind of exciting life.

The Pricing And Availability

The Realme GT 7 Pro is currently only available in China, but it is expected to find its way to global markets before the end of this month, which is good news for anyone interested.

The base variant costs CNY 3,599, which comes to a mere $505. If Realme can bring a starting price of about $699 to the global scene, I envision this device being a hit.

Through Tecno, Gionee, Vivo, Google, and now Samsung, Ayomide has always been an Android enthusiast. His current partner in crime is a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. You can find him playing Candy Crush or Call of Duty: Mobile, watching movies, and he is a big fan of trivia and quizzes.
