Last week, there were rumors about Qualcomm’s next-gen chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. This chipset will most likely be announced at the Snapdragon Summit at the end of the year and will most likely be used in 2024’s flagship phones. But if you’re not planning on upgrading so soon, it might not be that interesting to you.

What could be of interest to you is the chipset that follows it, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, which will most likely be used by manufacturers in their 2025 chipsets. Thanks to a post on Weibo by Digital Chat Station, we might have an idea of what to expect from it.

One of the main changes to the Snapdragon Gen 4 over the Gen 2 and Gen 3 is how the cores will be used. It will still be an octa-core processor, but instead of opting for the 1+5+2 configuration of big/medium/little, they will be opting for a big/little configuration of 2+6. It will also see Qualcomm potentially ditching the use of the Adreno GPU in favor of the company’s newer Oryon GPU.

It is unclear what the differences are and how big of an improvement we can expect, and given that the rumors have made their way online this early, it’s probably best to maintain a healthy degree of skepticism for now.
