Technology is awesome because it never stops and it never slows down. A lot of people haven’t even tapped fully into the magic and speeds of 5G, but we’ve already started hearing about 6G. Sure, it’s not exactly around the corner, but it is cool to see how tech companies are always working on the next big thing.
I mentioned 6G for a reason. T-Mobile is working on getting 6G developed and a step closer to the hands of consumers. To achieve this, the company has decided to work together with one of the leading companies when it comes to artificial intelligence—none other than Nvidia. That makes for an interesting collaboration.
T-Mobile Plans To Leverage AI To Improve Its Current Network Performance
GPUs play a massive part in artificial intelligence. It’s because when it comes to doing several technical calculations in parallel, they’re simply built much better for the occasion than CPUs are. It’s why Nvidia, the leading name in graphics cards, has found itself at the forefront of the hardware side of artificial intelligence.
Now that I’ve laid all that groundwork, it should make it a little less surprising when you hear that T-Mobile is partnering with Nvidia to get access to the GPU manufacturer’s AI expertise. T-Mobile plans to integrate AI into its radio access networks and deliver benefits to 5G network users. The goal is to boost T-Mobile network speeds and performance, which AI can somehow help achieve.
If you’re wondering how exactly AI can make network performance any better than it is right now, Fujitsu fortunately provided a demonstration at MWC 2024. Also working with Nvidia, the company was able to enhance signal processing in its 5G radios using AI. This resulted in a rather significant boost in upload speeds. That shows the viability of T-Mobile’s approach.
T-Mobile Also Hopes To Work With Nvidia To Accelerate 6G Development
Hate it or love it, AI can be put to extremely productive use, especially in domains that are extremely complex or with data that is way too large. T-Mobile isn’t just partnering with Nvidia for the sake of 5G—no, for forward thinkers, that’s old news—they’re partnering for the sake of 6G, which the average consumer isn’t even thinking about.
6G development has to start from somewhere, and T-Mobile has decided it is time to start setting the groundwork and accelerate the journey there. There’s not much specific about how AI will play a part in this—perhaps it is too technical for the average mind—but no one hates faster internet, right? I’ll be over here waiting for the new frontier with open arms.
There’s A Possibility AI In Your Network Could Result In Higher Prices
To really bring a boost to consumers all across the USA, T-Mobile is likely going to need to put Nvidia’s GPUs into its cell towers and radios, and with specialized hardware and software on such a large scale, it is expected to cost quite a lot.
However, the question is whether that massive incurred cost is eventually going to be transferred to the customers in some way, shape, or form. That’s not certain at this moment, but it certainly shouldn’t surprise if it does happen.
Through Tecno, Gionee, Vivo, Google, and now Samsung, Ayomide has always been an Android enthusiast. His current partner in crime is a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. You can find him playing Candy Crush or Call of Duty: Mobile, watching movies, and he is a big fan of trivia and quizzes.
