Motorola has always sort of flown under the radar, even when it makes excellent devices. Its clamshell foldables are a very good example of that (I still maintain that they’re better devices than what Samsung has to offer). However, good devices are good devices, whether they get press or not.
The Motorola Edge 2025 has just launched, and it builds upon the formula of the Edge 2024. However, what makes this year’s option so special is that it brings a significant number of upgrades to the table.
The Motorola Edge 2025 Improves the Cameras, Display, Battery, and More

It feels like it has been ages since I’ve seen a device that brings so much additional magic to the device that came a year before it. The Motorola Edge 2025 maintains a lot of the Edge 2024’s visual DNA, but under the hood, it does a lot. It gets a better screen, more durability, a bigger battery, better cameras, and a little more. Let’s dive into the spec sheet.
The Design
When it comes to its design, the first thing that makes the Motorola Edge 2025 stand out from its predecessor is the addition of a third camera on the back. That makes the previously rectangular camera module more of a rounded square. The flash also changes to a faux lens. Besides that, the vegan leather back panel is the same, though this year, the sole colorway changes to Pantone Deep Forest.
The phone is a tad heavier than last year, at 181 grams, but it gets 0.1mm thinner, at 8mm on the dot.

The device is as tough as we’ve come to expect from Motorola. You get MIL-STD-810H and IP69 certification—two upgrades compared to last year. Gorilla Glass 7i replaces Gorilla Glass 3.
The Screen

When it comes to the display, Motorola improves the formula so much compared to the Edge 2024. Let’s take a look at a side-by-side comparison of the display tech of both devices.
Motorola Edge 2025 | Motorola Edge 2024 | |
Technology | pOLED | pOLED |
Size | 6.7 inches | 6.6 inches |
Resolution | 1220 x 2712 | 1080 x 2400 |
Peak Brightness | 4,500 nits | 1,300 nits |
Refresh Rate | 120Hz | 144Hz |
Sure, the refresh rate drops, but 120Hz is perfect for almost everyone, and if that’s the trade-off for a brighter, bigger, and more detailed display, most of us will take it.
The Hardware

Inside, you get the MediaTek Dimensity 7400 Ultra as the beating heart of the Edge 2025. This replaces a Qualcomm chip, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2, from the previous model. On paper, with overall higher clock speeds, you should get better performance. That comes paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
Other hardware specs include Wi-Fi 6e, NFC, and stereo speakers with support for Dolby Atmos.
The Software

Perhaps it wouldn’t be fair to let this device slide by without talking about the software (read: AI). The phone gets a new AI Key, which, when long-pressed, will give you access to a suite of Moto AI features. These include the following:
- Next Move: Uses what’s on your screen to suggest a next action. This encapsulates Playlist Studio, which uses your screen to make a custom playlist, and Image Studio, which uses generative AI to bring your ideas to life.
- Pay Attention: Will record your conversations and meetings, transcribe them, and create summaries.
- Catch Me Up: Summarizes notifications that you might have missed while away from your phone.
- Remember This: Memorizes info that you ask it to, and can recall that info when needed.
The Battery and Charging

The 5,200mAh battery inside the Edge 2025 might be only 200mAh larger than what the Edge 2024 has, but that’s good enough. Paired with 68W wired charging and 15W wireless charging, it is hard to complain. This is a mid-range device after all.
The Cameras

Now, the cameras are pretty exciting because this is one department where Motorola seemed to take a lot of care. The primary camera gets upgraded to a Sony Lytia 700C sensor, but the device also gains a telephoto and upgraded selfie and ultrawide units.
- 50MP Primary: 1/1.56″ sensor, 24mm focal length, OIS
- 50MP Ultrawide: 12mm focal length, 122˚ FOV, Macro Vision
- 10MP Telephoto: 1/3.94″ sensor, 3x optical zoom, 73mm focal length, OIS
- 50MP Selfie: Autofocus (PDAF)
The Pricing and Availability

The Motorola Edge 2025 is available in the United States, and you will be able to buy the unlocked version at $549.99, starting on June 5th from major retailers. The carrier models are expected to arrive in “the coming months”.
Through Tecno, Gionee, Vivo, Google, and now Samsung, Ayomide has always been an Android enthusiast. His current partner in crime is a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. You can find him playing Candy Crush or Call of Duty: Mobile, watching movies, and he is a big fan of trivia and quizzes.
