The Nothing Phone 1’s Kernel Sources are Now Available

July 18, 2022 0 By Jumoka Cobbs

One of the biggest appeals of using an android phone if you’re an enthusiast or developer is the ability to access core system files and folders, and tweak your device according to your needs (or just good old fun). As such, a report from the folks over at XDA Developers reveals that kernel source codes for the new Nothing Phone (1) are now available for download.

Nothing Phone 1 owners will be able to download the files via a Github link, which were made available by the company in addition to the device tree in order to make modding a lot more accessible to owners of the device. Access to these files will enable developers to create extensive software support and functionality for the device. This is a welcome effort on Nothing’s part as not all phone manufacturers release system files to the public.

The Nothing Phone 1 was launched this July, and features a Snapdragon 778G+ chipset, a 6.55-inch OLED display, a trio of cameras on the front and back, and a very unique LED notification system, which Nothing calls the “Glyph Interface.” The phone is the company’s second device after the Nothing Ear (1), a pair of wireless earbuds. Nothing also released an Android launcher which is available for download on a majority of Android phones.
