The Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro launched late last year, as a fantastic flagship duo that didn’t compromise on the power or specs in pretty much all categories. The Xiaomi 14 was pretty notable too, as its 6.36-inch screen is on the smaller end of flagships, appealing to a lot of people.

This year, those phones are expected to come in at a similar size, but it seems like the batteries on both will be getting a major boost to the 5,000+ mark. If that turns out to be true, these phones are going to be the ones to watch, especially as they are expected to be the ones to debut Qualcomm’s upcoming flagship chip.

Most notably with Xiaomi’s mainline flagship devices, you can see that it doesn’t hesitate to go all out to provide flagships that nail the balance between price and proper high-end specs. The Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro launched late last year and hit the mark well, and the Xiaomi 14 Ultra which launched well after that made things even better (though at a much higher price point).

This year, we know that the Xiaomi 15 series will repeat the feat. The devices are expected to remain about the same size, which is good news for those who are fans of the relatively small build of the vanilla Xiaomi 15 — it’s hard to call a nearly 6.4-inch screen small, but that’s almost as small as things get for flagships in 2024. Despite no change in screen size though, the batteries for both are expected to push past the 5,000 mAh mark according to Smart Pikachu on Weibo.

The exact number is certain, but that’s a good number to hit and a major upgrade, considering the Xiaomi 14 had a 4,610 mAh cell and the Xiaomi 14 Pro had a slightly bigger 4,880 mAh battery in it.

It Looks Like A Variable Aperture Camera Might Be Coming To The Vanilla Model Too

One of the coolest things about the Xiaomi 14 Pro was that it had a variable aperture primary camera, which is still one of the rarer features that you’ll find among smartphone cameras. It’s very useful though, as it provides you with a lot more versatility when taking photographs.

The Xiaomi 14 wasn’t considered worthy enough for a variable aperture camera last year, which isn’t surprising as it likely would have hiked up the price considerably. However, it seems that the company might be thinking of putting a variable aperture primary unit in the regular model this year. That’d certainly make the Xiaomi 15 one of the phones to watch closely.

The Xiaomi 15 Phones Are Expected To Be The First With The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is expected to be a ridiculously powerful smartphone chip, and the Xiaomi 15 series is expected to be the very first set of smartphones to come with this brand-new SoC.

That’s very exciting, however, the chip’s power demand is said to necessitate larger batteries (which might explain the bump for the 15 series) and it is also expected to cost significantly more than last year’s chip (which could mean bad news for pricing considering all the other upgrades).

Ultimately, time will tell, and as long as there isn’t a substantial price increase, these are still likely to be absolutely excellent devices.
