There’s no doubt that the launch of the Switch 2 was one of the most highly anticipated console releases of all time, with gamers racing to pre-order it and lining up at midnight at retailers across the country to be among the first to get their hands on Nintendo’s new console.
Now, just days after the launch of the Switch 2 on June 5, Nintendo has confirmed that its new console has sold over 3.5 million units globally in its first four days of release. This makes the Switch 2 the fastest-selling Nintendo console ever.
“Fans around the world are showing their enthusiasm for Nintendo Switch 2 as an upgraded way to play at home and on the go,” said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America President. “We are thankful for their response and happy to see the fun they are already having with Nintendo Switch 2 as they explore new features and games that bring friends and family together in new ways.”

While Nintendo’s official press release states it is the “fastest-selling Nintendo game system ever,” it also holds the record for fastest-selling console ever at launch, surpassing the PS5, PS4, PS2 and the original Switch console. For reference, the original Switch took an entire month to sell 2.7 million units, whereas the Switch 2 has sold 3.5 million in just four days. For the PS5, it reportedly took four weeks to sell 3.4 million units (via DigiTimes).
As it stands, the Switch 2 is already catching up to the Wii U’s lifetime sales. The Wii U sold only 13.5 million units worldwide, so the current sales figure for the Switch 2 is already at 25 percent of that. By the end of the fiscal year, the Switch 2 is projected to sell around 15 million units (via Bloomberg), so there’s a good chance that by December, the Switch 2 will have surpassed the Wii U’s lifetime sales.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is available now for $450. A bundle with Mario Kart World is also available for $500. However, both versions are out of stock at most major retailers nationwide, and locating stock may be somewhat challenging over the next few weeks as Nintendo works to restock the console globally.
