According to Gurman, the company perceives the new operating system as one of the most substantial iOS updates, if not the most substantial, in the history of the company.
Gurman has expressed his intention to provide further information regarding the forthcoming iOS 18 features and modifications. However, we are already aware of two new features that are expected to be incorporated in the update, as described below. The release of iOS 18 is scheduled for September, with the initial beta version for developers set to be unveiled during Apple’s annual developers conference, WWDC, in June.
Apple made an announcement in November 2023, stating their intention to incorporate the cross-platform messaging standard RCS into the Messages app on the iPhone. This update is expected to be implemented in 2024, indicating that it will most likely be a feature of iOS 18, reports MacRumors.

Gurman anticipates that iOS 18 will incorporate generative AI technology, which is expected to enhance the capabilities of Siri and the Messages app in handling inquiries and automatically completing sentences. Additionally, Apple has reportedly explored the integration of generative AI features in various other apps across its platforms, such as Apple Music, Pages, Keynote, and Xcode.
Apple is reportedly planning to enhance Siri by incorporating large language models, enabling users to automate complex tasks. This new feature would involve a deeper integration with the Shortcuts app. The report suggests that this enhancement is expected to be included in an iPhone software update scheduled for release in 2024, possibly iOS 18.

In 2022, the popularity of generative AI soared when OpenAI introduced ChatGPT, a chatbot capable of answering questions and responding to prompts. Following suit, Google and Microsoft also launched similar chatbots last year, as more companies join the race in this field. These chatbots are trained on extensive language models, enabling them to provide responses that resemble human-like interactions.
