Mockup of an iPhone 15 model

Probable iPhone 15 spotted on India regulatory database

A previously unknown Apple device with model number A3094 has been listed on an India regulatory agency website, ahead of the expected iPhone 15 launch.

It used to be more common for unknown devices to first be spotted on regulatory databases, such as the Eurasian Economic Commission’s one. As with that and FCC filings, the listings are because a device must be approved by various bodies before it can be sold in certain territories.

While it’s now less common, it has happened before that India’s Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has listed devices no other regulator is yet showing. This time, the listing, first spotted by MySmartPrice.com, solely list the single A3094 model number.

It is definitely an iPhone because it has gained BIS certification under the mobile phones category. Otherwise, there are no details at all about it.

Nor is there any indication why there would be just the one listing, when Apple is expected to announce four new iPhones at its September event.

Separately, sources have reported that the iPhone 15 has begun production in India. This marks the first time that a new model iPhone has been made simultaneously in India and China.
