AMD confirms that Zen 5 Ryzen CPUs are launching this year

AMD’s next-generation of processors is due to launch later this year, ushering in the era of Zen 5 CPU architecture. An AMD representative has confirmed that consumer-grade (Ryzen) Zen 5 CPUs are on track for launch in the second half of 2024. This information conflicts with recent rumours that next-generation AMD AM5 processors were launching sooner.

With their next-generation Zen CPU architecture, AMD’s CEO Lisa Su has already promised “significant performance and efficiency gains” with their new architecture. This statement was made about the company’s next-generation Turin server processors, which use the same Zen architecture as AMD’s consumer products.

An AMD rep just confirmed that Zen 5 is on track for the consumer market for the second half of this year.

AMD’s Zen 4 CPU architecture has been a huge success for AMD. It has allowed AMD to gain market share within many segments of the PC market. With their next-generation CPU architecture, AMD hopes to build upon this success. That said, it remains to be seen how AMD’s next-generation Ryzen CPUs will perform.

When AMD revealed Zen 5, the promised their customers a “new grounds up microarchitecture”. This means that AMD will be delivering a huge number of design changes with their newest processors. The company also stated that there would be a “re-pipelined front end and wide issue”, and “integrated AI and Machine Learning optimisations”. We will learn more what these changes mean for Ryzen later this year.
