I think my intense desire for a flagship Android device dates back to the HTC One (M7, though it was only retroactively called the M7 after its successor, the M8, came out). That was a sexy smartphone and it ticked every single box that needed to be ticked back then. I have a soft spot for HTC as a result.

HTC is no longer who they used to be in the smartphone space, but they’re not completely gone yet. They still show up and release a phone or two each year, and this year, the mid-range HTC U24 Pro is coming to continue the trend for them.

I was a really big fan of HTC’s approach to hardware, and even though they’re not operating at the same level that they used to, I’m glad to see the company is still getting things done in select markets. This year, we’re expecting the HTC U24 Pro, and we’re probably going to get it in May (since the U23 Pro came out at the same time last year), according to an exclusive from Android Headlines.

A few days ago, MySmartPrice spotted a device on Geekbench with the model number 2QDA100 and assumed it could be one of the devices in the HTC U24 series. It seems that they might have been right, and thankfully, along with this Geekbench spotting, we can guess a few of the specs to expect from the U24 Pro.

Most importantly, we know that it is likely going to come with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, which means that it is aiming to be a mid-range device, and that can help us set our expectations for the rest of the spec sheet. Gone are the days of flagship HTCs, sadly. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 is a chip that’s good enough for what HTC is aiming to do at least.

While the storage configurations the device will come in aren’t known yet, it’s going to have 12GB of RAM, run on Android 14, and support Bluetooth 5.3. That’s pretty much the extent of everything known about this device at this point, but we’ll be looking forward to more leaks and whispers about the phone.

HTC Was A High-Tech Juggernaut If You Jump Back About A Decade Ago

HTC is simply coasting out of the heat of the spotlight that comes with the flagship category, but about 10 years ago, they were literally one of the biggest smartphone manufacturers. They were able to share a seat with Samsung, LG, and Motorola, as one of the top four Android makers.

Innovation was a big thing with HTC back then. The HTC One was probably the single device that popularized aluminum frames and back panels as a “premium” choice for smartphones, and it did an amazing job popularizing stereo speakers (of which many users said it sounded excellent). It was also only the second phone to come with OIS.

HTC was making the right moves back then, and while they may no longer have the muscle needed to break into flagships these days, we’ll always love them for the memories we made along the way (roll credits).

Through Tecno, Gionee, Vivo, Google, and now Samsung, Ayomide has always been an Android enthusiast. His current partner in crime is a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. You can find him playing Candy Crush or Call of Duty: Mobile, watching movies, and he is a big fan of trivia and quizzes.
