TL;DR

  • HUAWEI is launching two new laptops — the MateBook 14 and MateBook X Pro (2024).
  • The MateBook X Pro comes with 16GB/1TB for €2,000 and 32GB/2TB for £2,100 (exclusive to the UK).
  • The 16GB/512GB MateBook 14 will be available for €1,100, while the 16GB/1TB variant will cost £1,200 (exclusive to the UK).

Although HUAWEI products may be banned in the US, the company continues to release devices in other territories. The latest launch from the Shenzhen-based organization introduces new entries into the MateBook family — the MateBook 14 and MateBook X Pro (2024).

MateBook X Pro

This year’s version of HUAWEI’s flagship ultrabook has a magnesium alloy body with a matte finish that comes in Morandi Blue, Black, and White color schemes. Despite its metallic body, the laptop weighs only 980g, which is lighter than the 1,260g 2023 model. The company was able to achieve this by using a lighter PCB board, OLED display, keyboard, touchpad, hinge, battery, and fans.

In addition to being lighter, the computer is also thinner than before as well. While the 2023 model had a thickness of 15.1mm, this year’s device has been shaved down to 13.5mm. It appears the electronics manufacturer really honed in on portability for 2024.

Meanwhile, the display features what HUAWEI says is the first 14.2-inch flexible OLED screen. This flexible screen is said to eliminate the moiré patterns — patterns that appear when one semitransparent object with a repetitive pattern is placed over another — you typically see with rigid OLED displays.

As for the display’s specs, you can expect a resolution of 3120 x 2080 and a refresh rate of 120Hz. You shouldn’t have any trouble seeing this panel in direct sunlight either, as it boasts a peak brightness of 1,000 nits. This screen is touch-sensitive, supporting up to 10 points of touch. And right above the screen sits a 1080p HD camera for virtual hangouts, meetings, and so on.

Moving on to audio, the MateBook X Pro houses six speakers with high and low division. This laptop also supports 360-degree audio with the help of the four microphones embedded at the top of the screen.

Under the hood, this ultrabook runs on an Intel Core Ultra 9 processor with an Intel Arc GPU. It will be available in two configurations: 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage or 32GB of RAM and 2TB of storage. However, the 32GB/2TB variant will only be available in the UK. You can also expect a 7oWh battery for the power source and a 60W USB-C charger. This battery is said to provide 6.5 hours of daily usage with 11 hours of local 1080p video playback.

The more affordable MateBook 14 is just a tad thicker and heavier than its sibling, coming in at 14.5mm and weighing 1.31kg. However, it still manages to trim some of that thickness down from last year by 0.3mm. The chassis also comes in three colors like the MateBook X Pro, but these colors include Mystic Silver, Space Grey, and Green.

Offering 14.2 inches of screen real estate, the display is an OLED 10-point touchscreen with an adaptive refresh rate between 48Hz and 120Hz. It also has 2.8K resolution, a 3:2 aspect ratio, 450 nits of brightness, 1920Hz PWM dimming, and a 1080p webcam.

Inside, you’ll find an Intel Core Ultra 7 chip and Intel Arc GPU. Two configurations will be available, including a 16GB/512GB  model and a 16GB/1TB variant. However, only consumers in the UK will have access to the 16GB/1TB model.

With its 70Wh battery, Huawei claims the laptop is capable of achieving seven hours of normal use with 19 hours of local 1080p video playback.

Availability

The MateBook X Pro (2024) and the MateBook 14 both go on sale starting on June 18 in Europe and the UK. The 16GB/1TB MateBook X Pro will sell for €2,000, while the 32GB/2TB model will only be available in the UK for £2,100. Similarly, the Matebook 14 will have a base model available for €1,100 (16GB/512GB) and one exclusive to the UK for £1,200 (16GB/1TB).
