Smartphones are fragile. No matter what sort of glass protection they have, a phone’s display or rear glass is prone to cracking during accidental drops. Hence, rugged smartphones are available for people who want their smartphones to sustain accidental damage, rough handling, or water damage. However, the biggest drawback of a rugged phone is its extra weight and bulky design.

Oppo is about to change this with its upcoming smartphone, the A3 Pro. It will be tough and rugged but will look like a regular smartphone. Oppo has officially revealed some details about the phone, including its launch date. As per the company, the A3 Pro will be “super fall-resistant” and “super durable”. Also, it will be the world’s most water-resistant smartphone yet.

Oppo’s Durable Tech Will Make the A3 Pro Its Most Durable Phone Yet

Liu Bo, president of Oppo China, has revealed some details about the Oppo A3 Pro. According to him (reported by Fonearena), the A3 Pro will debut Oppo’s “durable technology.” It appears to be some sort of tech Oppo has been working on to make smartphones more durable and rugged.

Rugged phones have been around for a long–even Nokia launched one last year. However, they’re bulkier and heavier when compared to a regular smartphone. The Oppo A3, in contrast, would boast durability and toughness but will look and weigh like a regular smartphone. It will reportedly be just 7.8mm thick, making it slimmer than many phones out there.

Liu also said the Oppo A3 Pro will “set a new standard for durable and user-friendly phones, advancing the mobile industry.” It will be military-grade certified, and the display will be able to withstand accidental drops.

Moreover, the phone will have a “long battery life.” The Oppo A2 Pro launched last year with a four-year battery replacement program. If the phone’s battery health dropped below 80% within four years, Oppo offered free battery replacement. The forthcoming A3 Pro is said to come with a more enhanced battery, promising even longer battery health.

The Oppo A3 Pro Will Be the World’s First IP69-Rated Smartphone

Oppo’s president has also revealed that the Oppo A3 Pro will be the world’s first “full-level waterproof” phone. It will boast IP69 certification–the first on a mainstream smartphone. We’ve seen similar or better water resistance, but only on rugged smartphones. The Nokia XR21, for example, gets an IP69K rating.

Mainstream smartphones at max have grabbed IP68 ratings yet. Even the likes of Samsung Galaxy S24 lineup and Apple iPhone 15 series boast an IP68 certification. The Oppo A3 Pro will lead the way, and rumors suggest that Samsung’s Galaxy S25 and Apple’s iPhone 16 series will follow a similar fashion. Both companies are expected to introduce IP69 ratings on their upcoming flagships.

The durability aspect of the Oppo A3 Pro looks quite attractive, and it will be exciting to see how much the phone stands up to Oppo’s claims.

What Else Do We Know?

Courtesy of Digital Chat Station, we also know some other specifications of the Oppo A3 Pro. It will get a 6.7-inch curved OLED panel, with a resolution of 1080p and a refresh rate of 120Hz. The selfie camera will sit in a punch hole, but the lens used is not known. At the rear, you’d get a 64MP camera with f/1.7 aperture. It’s a triple-camera setup, but there’s no information on the other sensors.

The Oppo A3 Pro will run MediaTek’s 7050 processor, with up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. It will have a 5000mAh battery, and you can expect some sort of guarantee or warranty on the battery’s health. Other specifications remain a mystery, as this is all we know about the phone.

Speaking of its pricing, the top-end version is said to be priced similarly to its predecessor, the A2 Pro, at 2,399 Chinese Yuan ($332 approximately.) The A2 Pro was limited to China only, and we’ll know at the launch whether Oppo plans on bringing the A3 Pro to other countries or not.
