Unlike the Galaxy S23, which exclusively used the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, the Galaxy S24 and the Galaxy S24+ use the Exynos 2400 chip in most countries worldwide. However, consumers don’t trust Samsung’s in-house processors as they have disappointed people several times. This is the South Korean firm’s last chance to make things right. So, has Exynos improved?

Tests reveal that the Exynos 2400 is a remarkable improvement over the Exynos 2200. But is it enough to perform better than just previous Exynos chips? No. Exynos must perform in the league of its competitors, Apple, MediaTek, and Qualcomm. So, how does it perform against them?

Exynos 2400 vs. Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 vs. MediaTek Dimensity 9300 vs. Apple A17 Pro: GPU performance

Samsung’s latest flagship mobile processor did exceedingly well in ray tracing performance. In the 3DMark Solar Bay test, which tests the ray tracing performance of devices, the Exynos 2400 performed the best. It scored 8,642 points and consumed 9.3W of power. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 scored 8,601 points but consumed 11.7W of power. This makes the Exynos the most powerful and efficient processor for ray tracing performance in games. The Xclipse 940 GPU based on AMD’s RDNA 3 architecture looks great for ray tracing. These tests were performed by YouTuber Golden Reviewer.

In rasterization (conventional graphics), the Exynos 2400 performs better than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 but lower than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and the Dimensity 9300 in the 3DMark Wildlife Extreme test. This benchmark tests the graphics performance of the GPU under sustained loads and is the most sought-after benchmark among mobile enthusiasts. It is more power-efficient than the Dimensity 9300 but less efficient than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 or the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. So, it looks like Samsung has made substantial progress compared to the Exynos 2200.

In GFXBench 3.1 (1080p resolution), the Exynos 2400 performed better than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 but not as good as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or the Dimensity 9300. The efficiency of the Exynos 2400 is better than the Apple A16 Bionic and the Dimensity 9300, and it is as good as the Dimensity 9200 and the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1.

In the GFXBench Aztec test, which uses Vulkan APIs on Android devices and Metal APIs on Apple’s devices, the Exynos 2400 performed better than the Apple A16 Bionic, Dimensity 9200, and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Still, it is not as good as the Dimensity 9300 and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. However, its efficiency is almost as good as the Dimensity 9200 and the Dimensity 9200. Its efficiency is better than the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and nearly 2x compared to the Exynos 2100 and the Exynos 2200.

Author’s Note: The GPU performance of the Exynos 2400 is better than last year’s chipsets but lower than this year’s competitors. However, its efficiency still needs to be better than its competitors in rasterization performance. In ray tracing performance, though, the Exynos 2400 seems like a winner, as it performs better than all other chipsets in the market while consuming less power. So, it is clear where Samsung needs to improve next year.
