Samsung Electronics is reportedly getting sued by the Consumers’ Association and the Consumer Competition Claims Foundation in the Netherlands. The reason is that Samsung allegedly fixed TV prices between 2013 and 2018.
The organizations allege that Samsung Electronics pressured retailers not to sell its TVs below a certain price. Reportedly, Samsung actively verified whether retailers in the Netherlands adhered to these rules.
Other TV brands supposedly followed Samsung
Because of this alleged price-fixing strategy, the Consumers’ Association claims that customers who purchased a TV between 2013 and 2018 paid €100 too much, on average.
Furthermore, the Association says that TV customers have overpaid even if they chose a different brand than Samsung. Supposedly, other TV manufacturers followed Samsung’s aggressive pricing strategy and overpriced their TVs as a result.
The two organizations in the Netherlands believe TV buyers should be compensated, and yes, that includes customers who have purchased TVs from other brands.
The Consumer’s Association and the Consumer Competition Claims Foundation are asking TV buyers who have purchased a TV from an online store in the Netherlands between January 2013 and December 2018 to report on it and join the cause.
