Samsung was the world’s second-biggest tablet maker last year. The company’s Galaxy Tab lineup is pretty popular among Android tablet buyers, but their sales slipped last year, along with the sales of tablets from Apple, Amazon, Huawei, and Lenovo. It is expected that sales of tablets will continue to dwindle in the future.
Samsung ranked second in tablet sales in 2023, but sales dropped 13.9% compared to 2022
According to the latest numbers from market research firm IDC, Samsung was the world’s second-biggest tablet brand in Q4 2023 and full-year 2023. In Q4 2023, Samsung sold 7.3 million tablets, and that number turned out to be 26.2 million tablets for the full year. That’s a 6.6% fall in Q4 2023 compared to Q4 2022 and an overall fall of 13.9% for the full year of 2023 compared to the year earlier. Samsung launched the Galaxy Tab A9, Galaxy Tab A9+, Galaxy Tab S9 FE, Galaxy Tab S9 FE+, Galaxy Tab S9, Galaxy Tab S9+, and Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra last year.
In comparison, Apple sold 14.9 million iPads in Q4 2023 and a total of 48.5 million iPads in the whole year. It had a massive fall of 29.3% in sales during the last quarter of the year, but when you look at the overall sales of the year 2023, Apple’s iPad sales dropped close to 20%. It means Samsung didn’t suffer as big a drop in sales as Apple did in the tablet market last year.
Huawei’s tablet sales skyrocketed in the last quarter of 2023. Its sales increased 21.2% to 2.8 million units in Q4 2023, but the overall sales figures were 4% lower in 2023 compared to 2024. Lenovo shipped 2.6 million tablets in Q4 2023, which is a 12.5% rise compared to Q4 2022. Its overall sales in 2023 were around 9.3 million units, which is a 19.7% drop compared to 2022. Xiaomi sold 1.6 million tablets in Q4 2023, a 35% improvement compared to Q4 2022. In 2023, Xiaomi didn’t make the cut in the top five rankings globally.
