Galaxy Tab S8 updated with October 2023 security patch

In addition to the Galaxy Tab S7 lineup, Samsung has released the latest security update for the Galaxy Tab S8 series. The new update is rolling out to the Wi-Fi variants of all Galaxy Tab S8 models at the time of this writing; the 5G models should also get it eventually, though there’s no way to be sure how long it will take.

The latest Galaxy Tab S8 update — firmware version ending in BWI1 — comes bundled with the October 2023 security patch. It doesn’t have anything else to offer, but that’s okay since the Galaxy Tab S8 lineup recently received the One UI 5.1.1 update with new features and enhancements, and, in the next couple of months, will be getting Android 14 and One UI 6.0 with an even bigger list of features.

The October 2023 security patch is not very interesting and addresses some generic vulnerabilities that can allow attackers to gain access to users’ devices and/or perform operations on their devices without permission. Two of the vulnerabilities found in the Android OS are considered critical, and the patch also fixes 12 vulnerabilities that were found exclusively affecting Samsung’s software.

To grab the new update on your Galaxy Tab S8, Tab S8+, or Tab S8 Ultra over the air, open the tablet’s Settings app, select Software update, and hit Download and install. You may have to repeat this process a couple of times if the update doesn’t show up on the first try. You can also download the latest firmware from the SamMobile archive and update the tablet by flashing that firmware to it using a Windows PC.
