If you own a PlayStation VR2, you may have been disappointed to learn that the headset isn’t officially compatible with a Windows PC. But that’s slated to change later this year.

“We’re pleased to share that we are currently testing the ability for PS VR2 players to access additional games on PC to offer even more game variety in addition to the PS VR2 titles available through PS5,” Sony wrote in a blog post. “We hope to make this support available in 2024, so stay tuned for more updates.”

The change promises to add more value to the PS VR2, which currently retails for $549. The VR headset has received strong reviews, but some consumers have been hesitant to buy it after realizing the headset only officially works with the PlayStation 5. In contrast, the Meta Quest 3 starts at $499 and offers PC support.

The PS VR2 does come with a USB-C port. But if you connect it to a PC, the headset won’t offer full functionality, with Windows unable to access all the PS VR2’s capabilities. It’s why the modding community has already been working on ways to bring PC support to the headset.

It now looks like PS VR2 owners won’t need to resort to unofficial mods to enable the Windows PC compatibility. Still, it’s possible Sony’s solution to the PC support could arrive with limitations in place. Modding group iVRy suspects the company intends on streaming the PC experience to the required PlayStation 5, and then feeding the experience to the headset.

Sony made the announcement as the company is trying to sell more PC games. “If you have strong first-party content—not only on our console but also other platforms, like computers—a first-party [game] can be grown with multi-platform, and that can help operating profit to improve, so that’s another one we want to proactively work on,” Sony President Hiroki Totoki said last month.
