Motorola announced its new foldable flip phones, with the Razr Plus (2024) being the company’s latest flagship foldable phone to be released. Among its upgrades, the new Razr Plus has received faster 45W wired and 15W wireless charging (and 5W reverse-wireless).

There are also some battery upgrades with a somewhat larger 4000mAh battery. Additionally, Motorola has equipped the 2024 Razr Plus with the power-efficient Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 and UFS 4.0 storage, which have undoubtedly had an effect.

To avoid any confusion, keep in mind that the 2024 version of the Razr Plus has a different name for the EU and other parts of the world, Razr 50 Ultra. In other words, it is the direct successor to last year’s Razr 40 Ultra, or the 2023 Razr Plus.

Below you will find the results we got during our battery life and charging tests on the Motorola Razr Plus (2024).  You will also see how they compared to its main current competitor and its predecessor.

Here’s an overview of where the Razr Plus (2024) sits in our rankings in terms of battery life and charging speed:

Browsing Test results

This is the one area where the new Razr Plus showcases a massive jump in energy efficiency compared to last year’s model. It is also significantly better than the Galaxy Z Flip 5, lasting about 5 hours longer.

Our web browsing battery life test simulates an everyday browsing experience with the display set at 200 nits. We leave the refresh rate at its automatic or default setting, aiming to recreate typical use. In this case, all phones have a variable refresh rate, meaning it can decrease and increase depending on the actions and content during the browsing sessions.

YouTube Test results

When it comes to streaming video content we saw only a tiny difference between the 2024 version of the Razr Plus and the new one during our video streaming test. Both Razr Plus models beat the Galaxy Z Flip 5 by a landslide.

Our video streaming test loops through a video playlist with the screen once again set at 200 nits.

3D Gaming Test results

The results from our 3D gaming battery life test are almost identical to those from our YouTube test. The 2024 Razr Plus beat the Z Flip 5 by around 6 hours. That said, all flip phones are pretty bad in terms of thermal throttling and can get pretty hot, so we wouldn’t recommend prolonged gaming sessions on either of these foldables.

Wired Charging Test

Interestingly, despite the 45W wired charging on the 2024 Razr Plus, the difference from 0-100% is only 6 minutes when compared to the 2023 Razr Plus that comes with 30W charging. Unsurprisingly, however, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is dead last with its 25W of wired charging.
