Everyone is in the race to develop advanced robots, and Nvidia has recently unveiled its own humanoid robots.

The world’s leading chip company wants to be ahead of everyone else in the AI platform race while providing them a platform to build humanoid robots on.

The Generalist Robot 00 Technology project — or GR00T for short — is the chipmaker’s latest offering.

It’s a ‘general-purpose foundation model for humanoid robots’ for driving breakthroughs in robotics powered by AI.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang came onto the company’s GTC conference stage accompanied by a squad of nine humanoid robots.

Now, that’s how you make a special entrance.

“Building foundation models for general humanoid robots is one of the most exciting problems to solve in AI today,” Huang said in a press release.

Humanoid robots are not new, from researchers in academic labs to large corporations, everyone is working on something.

However, they’re limited because they don’t have a general platform to work on.

If you didn’t notice, most robots that make the headlines are only good at certain tasks.

For instance, this humanoid robot can only predict when you’re going to smile.

Nvidia wants to solve that problem.

Similarly, if everyone has a general platform to build on, we can have advanced humanoid robots that excel at multiple tasks.

The ‘AI’ term is widely exaggerated all over the internet, but if Nvidia succeeds in integrating its Project GR00T with AI, it will be a game changer.

Further, Huang mentioned that if robots use Nvidia’s tech, they will be able to learn from past interactions, essentially making them smarter.

That means we will see intelligent humanoid robots as a part of our daily lives in the future.

Will it be a year? Two years? We don’t know.

But it’s not going to take long, by the looks of things.

Moreover, Nvidia’s robots will directly compete with Elon Musk’s Tesla Optimus robot platform.

Competition is generally a good thing for us users when it comes to advanced tech.
